NHIs, Non-human identitys.

2025-10-07

As agents become part of standard workflows, identity has to move past just people.

Every API, model, and bot that acts on someone's behalf now needs its own credential, audit log, and set of permissions. That's a non-human identity (NHI), and it's the next challenge in access and compliance.

With the launch of ACP (Agentic Commerce Protocol) from OpenAI and Stripe, agents can authorize and settle purchases directly without human interaction.

It makes identity, authorization, and verification critical:

  • Who approved the spend?
  • What was the limit?
  • What logs the event?

This is where blockchain-based IAM serves as a solution. Ledgers can verify who or what signed an action, attach proof, and preserve that record for validation.

A system like SciPHR extends the model: It can bind an agent to a verified identity, encrypt credentials on-chain, and provide audit logs if required.
