Regulated hedging expands past BTC and ETH
CME plans to list options on Solana and XRP futures on October 13, pending review. Both futures are already trading this year, SOL since March and XRP since May.
What this unlocks
- Exposure without custody. You can get price exposure to SOL and XRP without touching the tokens. These are cash-settled CME contracts that reference independent benchmark rates.
- Cleaner operations. Exchange-traded, centrally cleared products that fit existing risk and reporting workflows. No wallets. No moving coins.
- Clearer U.S. tax treatment. CME crypto futures and options generally fall under the standard futures framework (often Section 1256 with Form 6781). NFA. Talk to your tax pro, but the rules are established.
