Microsoft Azure experienced a global outage this week after an infrastructure change disrupted its Azure Front Door (AFD), which impacted several enterprise services.

The timing followed OpenAI's restructuring, which gave the company more flexibility in building but kept Microsoft as the primary provider of its cloud infrastructure.

The scale of a cloud provider like Azure means minor configuration issues can affect a wide range of systems built. Cloud reliability remains high, but when a provider falters, the impact is immediate.

Most of modern AI and enterprise software now depend on the same few clouds to stay online.
